Saturday night, celebrities brought the heat to Harlem for the 2021 Soul Train Awards. Held at the historic Apollo Theater in New York City, this year’s award show wasn’t just another ceremony, but a celebration of 50 years of Soul Train.
Maxwell and Ashanti were the guests of honor, with the former being presented with the Legend Award and the latter the Lady of Soul Award. The two took the stage in addition to other performers including Lucky Daye, Ari Lennox, Leon Bridges, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak as Soul Sonic, and BET Amplified artists Elhae and Marzz.

The Mission Impossible actress leads the streamer’s upcoming series, Sacrifice, playing dangerously cool entertainment lawyer Daniella Hernandez and in ET’s exclusive sneak peek of the first season, fans get their first look at the fascinating cast of characters in her world.
Based on the BET+ original movie of the same name, the series follows Daniella’s life in the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles as she mitigates the complex lives of her rich and famous clients. An all-around boss with deft perception skills and cutthroat in her negotiations, Daniella is an X-Factor attorney in high demand with many nefarious clients.
Colin Powell, the first Black US secretary of state whose leadership in several Republican administrations helped shape American foreign policy in the last years of the 20th century and the early years of the 21st, has died from complications from Covid-19, his family said on Facebook. He was 84.”General Colin L. Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid 19,” the Powell family wrote on Facebook, noting he was fully vaccinated.A source familiar with the matter said Powell had multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells that suppresses the body’s immune response. Even if fully vaccinated against Covid-19, those who are immunocompromised are at greater risk from the virus.

The 21st annual BET awards returned Sunday, June 27 with a theme that focused on the “Year of the Black Woman.” Award-winning actress and producer Taraji P. Henson hosted the ceremony from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where a live audience attended the nearly four hour show.
“Celebrating Black women isn’t a fad or a trend it’s a forever mood” Henson said, opening up the show. “There is more than enough room for all of us to thrive, because can’t nobody be like me and can’t nobody be you like you.”
